- FIFA President Gianni Infantino has vowed to support the head of FKF Hussein Mohammed in his vision to transform the football industry in the country.

Gianni Infantino, the FIFA President, has delivered a powerful message of devotion and support to Kenyan football ahead of the crunch CHAN final scheduled to take place in Nairobi on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Speaking in Nairobi during a press conference, Infantino praised Kenya and the other East African countries for co-hosting a successful tournament. He also affirmed FIFA’s commitment to the development of the beautiful game in Kenya.

According to Infantino, the assumption that people in East Africa, especially Kenya do not like football is misleading.
“I’m excited to be here and the reason for that is East Africa is an incredible part of Africa with incredible talent, and the fact that there is a feeling out there that football is more prominent in the West, North or South of Africa but the East is kind of lagging behind is simply wrong.
When you see the passion that is here, the commitment; new stadiums are being built here, infrastructure coming together, you have heard about the viewing figures (40 million), the fans, this shows that it is right to invest in the game because this is investment in the youth of Kenya which has incredible talent,” he stated.

The head of FIFA, who was accompanied by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe, added that they will fully support the recently elected Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed in his vision to transform the football sector in the country.

On his part, Motsepe took the opportunity to laud Kenyans for turning up in large numbers to watch the CHAN 2024 matches.
Motsepe, who is a citizen of South Africa, added that this is an indication of a much better AFCON 2027 showpiece.
“In Kenya, the interest in the CHAN 2024 tournament has been abnormal. There has been huge support and boost for football in the country and it’s excellent for the foundation of the 2027 AFCON,” he explained.
Infantino, Motsepe and Mohammed will join other dignitaries at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani Stadium to watch the Madagascar vs Morocco CHAN 2024 final. Kenya’s President William Ruto is also expected to attend. The match will start from 6pm Kenyan time.
