This marks the first time Strathmore Leos have lost their opening match in the 2025 series, having previously opened with victories at the Driftwood and Prinsloo 7s.

Hosts Kenya Harlequins set the tone early by dispatching invited side Mombasa Sports Club 34-15, continuing their impressive trend of strong starts in the group stages across all three legs.

Meanwhile, Nakuru RFC began confidently, outclassing Masinde Muliro University 22-7, while the Catholic Monks, who placed third at the Prinsloo 7s, produced a dominant display by thrashing Impala RFC 33-5.
