Kenyans and football enthusiasts who were unable to secure tickets for the highly anticipated Kenya vs Zambia fixture, Kenya’s final Group A match in the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, have something to cheer about.
The government, in collaboration with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), has unveiled six fully equipped fan zones where supporters can enjoy the match in comfort and style.
Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, alongside CAF officials and FKF President Hussein Mohamed, unveiled the six locations in Nairobi where giant screens will be installed.
These include Uhuru Park in the Central Business District (CBD), while fans near Kasarani can gather at Lucky Summer in Ngomongo, just behind the stadium.

Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya explains the rationale behind the fan zones for Zambia vs Kenya
Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, CS Mvurya explained the motivation behind creating the fan zones for Zambia vs Kenya match.
We recognize that many supporters may not gain access to the stadium due to limited ticket availability.
To accommodate these fans and manage crowds effectively, we’ve set up secure fan zones across Nairobi, including Jacaranda, Uhuru Park, Dandora, Utalii, and areas adjacent to Kasarani,” he stated.
This is part of a broader security strategy to mitigate overcrowding at the stadium.”

This initiative comes in the wake of CAF’s decision to impose strict penalties on Kenya following a security breach during their previous match against Morocco on Sunday.
As a consequence, CAF reduced the allowed stadium attendance from 48,000 to 27,000 spectators, issuing a stern warning to the co-hosts of the tournament, which includes Uganda and Tanzania alongside Kenya.

In addition to the attendance cap, Kenya has incurred hefty fines amounting to KSh 12 million due to multiple violations, including failure to comply with CAF’s regulations in the three group stage matches played at Kasarani Stadium.
The newly launched fan zones aim to offer a safe, inclusive, and vibrant alternative viewing experience for fans, ensuring that the passion for the game continues to thrive despite the logistical setbacks.
