- Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has named a 30-man provisional squad for the upcoming CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) set to take place this August.
- With the tournament exclusively reserved for players featuring in their respective domestic leagues, the squad has been selected entirely from the FKF Premier League.
- For the first time in history, the CHAN tournament will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, and is scheduled to run from August 2 to August 30, 2025.
Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has unveiled his provisional squad for the upcoming CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), which Kenya is set to co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania this August.
With the tournament exclusively reserved for players featuring in their respective domestic leagues, the 30-man squad has been assembled entirely from the FKF Premier League, reflecting the cream of local football talent.
The squad features standout names, particularly in attack, where the frontline is spearheaded by FKF Premier League 2024/25 Golden Boot winner Moses Shummah of Kakamega Homeboyz, who netted 17 goals.
He will be partnered by Emmanuel Osoro, who notched 16 goals for FC Talanta and has also earned a call-up.

Tusker FC’s clinical striker Ryan Ogam makes a long-awaited return after a four-month injury layoff. Prior to his setback, he had already bagged 15 goals, underlining his attacking prowess.
They will be joined by Ulinzi Stars’ forward Boniface Muchiri, Bandari FC’s dynamic attacker Beja Nyamawi, and Mohammed Bajaber from FKF Premier League champions Kenya Police FC.
Also making his debut is Yakeen Muteheli from Ulinzi Stars, while Sofapaka’s in-form forward Edward Ondimo Omondi, who impressed in the recently concluded season, earns a deserved spot.
In goal, McCarthy has named three shot-stoppers: Farouk Shikhalo, Sebastian Wekesa, and Brian Opondo.
The defensive line isd anchored by Kenya Police FC duo Daniel Sakari and Abud Omar, alongside Gor Mahia stalwarts Sylvester Owino and Alphonce Omija.
Shabana FC’s rising star Keith Imbali and Ulinzi Stars’ standout Staphod Odhiambo receive their maiden call-ups, joined by AFC Leopards’ explosive attacking midfielder Kelly Madada, another promising Rising Star.

This will mark Kenya’s inaugural appearance at the CHAN tournament. The nation last featured in a major continental event during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where the team exited in the group stage.
This time, the Harambee Stars will be keen to make a deeper run, especially with the inspirational advantage of playing on home soil.
The squad is expected to report to camp on July 10, 2025.

Kenya has been drawn in the highly competitive Group A, which features African heavyweights DR Congo, Angola, Morocco, and Zambia.
The Stars will kick off their campaign against DR Congo on August 3 at Kasarani Stadium.
