Gor Mahia’s attacking midfielder Alpha Onyango has issued a heartfelt apology after missing a crucial penalty in the FKF Cup 2025 final, where his team succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Nairobi United.
The match, played on Sunday, June 29, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, saw Gor Mahia fall short as the NaiBois clinched the coveted title, leaving K’Ogalo trophyless for the season.
The first half ended in a 1-1 stalemate, with Frank Ouya opening the scoring for Nairobi United before Ben Stanley leveled for Gor Mahia.
The second half saw Enock Machaka restore Nairobi’s lead, setting up a tense finale.
In the dying minutes, Onyango had a golden opportunity to force extra time when Gor Mahia were awarded a penalty after Austin Odhiambo was fouled in the box.
Onyango, who was in contention for the Golden Boot with four goals in the tournament, stepped up to take the decisive spot-kick.
Unfortunately, his tame effort was comfortably saved by Ernest Muhammed, who was later named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player whose heroic save sealed victory for the NSL champions.

Despite the heartbreaking loss, the 24-year-old midfielder extended his gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support throughout the campaign. He pledged to bounce back stronger.
