The current 800m world champions Mary Moraa and Emmanuel Wanyonyi will lead Kenya’s charge at the Stockholm Diamond League 2025 that is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 15.

Moraa and Wanyonyi head to Stockholm with the hopes of producing brilliant performances and pick up the crucial points to guarantee themselves spots in the 2025 Diamond League final.

Nonetheless, the two athletes, particularly Moraa, who has posted mixed results this season, are aware that victory will not come easy in Stockholm.

Mary Moraa to face a tough field in Stockholm Diamond League 2025

Moraa is expected to battle it out with a strong field in the 800m race that is set to start at 8:31 pm East African Time (EAT).

Some of the athletes that the 2024 Paris Olympic Games bronze medalist will race against include Botswana’s Oratile Nowe, and Italy’s Eloisa Coiro.

Great Britain’s Georgia Bell Hunter, Switzerland’s Audrey Werro and South Africa’s Prudence Sekgodiso will also be in contention.

Moraa has stated that she is feeling good ahead of the event that will go down on her birthday.

“Hello Stockholm! On the eve of my born day and first Diamond League race of the season. The almighty God has been good and graceful,” she wrote.

Similar to Moraa, Wanyonyi will also fight for the Stockholm Diamond League 2025 title against a very deep field.

The crazy field has the likes of his fellow compatriot Wyclife Kinyamal, and the United States duo of Josh Hoey and Bryce Hoppel.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi to use Stockholm Diamond League 2025 to gauge shape

The 20-year-old will use the race as part of his preparations for the 2025 World Athletics Championships that will be staged in Tokyo, Japan between September 13 and September 21.

According to Wanyonyi, who won a gold medal for Kenya in the Paris Olympic Games, he is yet to discover his best form.

“Training has been going quite well, but I can’t really say I am in the best shape to get my personal best at the moment.

For now, I just want to get my body in competition shape ahead of the long season, which I hope I will peak when I race at my third world championships in Tokyo,” he told Olympics.com during the Oslo Diamond League 2025.

The talented runner clocked a season best time of 1:42.78 to win the Oslo Diamond League 2025 title earlier this week.

In Oslo, Wanyonyi was followed by Spanish runner Mohamed Ali Attaoui and Algeria’s Sedjati, who clocked 1:42.90 and 1:43.06 in that order.

Several Kenyan athletes to feature in Stockholm Diamond League 2025

Besides Moraa and Wanyonyi, several other top stars including Kenyans are expected to light up the Stockholm Diamond League 2025.

Some of these big names include Armand “Mondo” Duplantis, Julien Alfred, Joseph Fahnbulleh and Sekgodiso.

Other Kenyans confirmed for the event are Kinyamal, Andrew Kiptoo Alamisi, Denis Kipkoech, Cornelius Kemboi, Wesley Langat, Wilberforce Kones, Festus Lagat, Boaz Kiprugut, Hellen Ekalale and Caroline Nyaga.

The trio of Kemboi, Alamisi and Kipkoech will feature in the 5000m men race while Ekalale and Nyaga are set to compete in the 3000m women final.

Meanwhile, Langat and Kones will battle it out against other top athletes in the 3000m men Steeplechase final with Kiprugut and Lagat in action in the 1500m men final at the Stockholm Diamond League 2025.
