Former Kenyan captain Victor Wanyama has disclosed that he is thinking about featuring for Harambee Stars again.

Wanyama, who is considered as one of the best football players in Kenya’s history, made the revelations during an interview with BBC Africa Sport.

According to Wanyama, he has spoken several times with the recently appointed Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy about the issue.

Wanyama, who has had stints with the likes of the reigning UEFA Europa League champions Tottenham Hotspur, Celtic and CF Montreal, also described McCarthy as a brilliant tactician.

“He is a big manager. He has been at Man United. Things have changed. The way the federation manages the players and the national team. Very soon, I will be making an announcement,” he stated.

The powerful midfielder had a remarkable career with Harambee Stars which saw him captain the team to the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament after a long hiatus.

Wanyama, who is the younger brother to the ex-Inter Milan star McDonald Mariga, announced his Harambee Stars exit in 2024 terming it as a difficult decision to take.

“From making my debut against Nigeria to captaining the team at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt – these past 14 years have gone beyond what I ever thought possible.

The time has come to hand over the team to the next generation so that they too can make their mark and help our country reach even greater heights,” his statement read then.

Should Wanyama decide to return to Harambee Stars, McCarthy and the Kenyan people will not only get a leader but also a talented player.

The 33-year-old is currently playing for Scottish second-tier side Dunfermline Athletic. He played an instrumental role to help the club avoid relegation a few weeks ago.

The player, who helped Celtic secure multiple titles, has described the Scottish people as welcoming and supportive.

“They have really looked after me. They embrace their culture. It doesn’t matter where you come from, and they see you as one of their own. And they love their football. It has been a great experience. Good to be back in Scottish football,” ended Wanyama.
