- Alexandra Ndolo has highlighted the high level of incompetence from the Kenyan government.
- Ndolo has also stated that she will continue with her mission of improving Fencing in Kenya.
- Similar to Ndolo, Yego has also asked government officials to up their game.
Kenyan sports persons including former Javelin world champion Julius Yego and Fencer Alexandra Ndolo have raised concerns about government accountability in sports.
Ndolo, who was part of Kenya’s team that took part in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games has called out the government over systemic issues.
According to Ndolo, a lot needs to be done to help Kenyan athletes perform well in international competitions.

“It seems that no institution in Kenya is or feels responsible for keeping sports federations in check, because in my three year quest for answers and a checks and balances structure, I could find none. This is a bad sign, not just for me, but for Kenyan athletes in general.
Across sports, to currently competing athletes or those considering to join. At this moment I could not in good conscience recommend any athlete of Kenyan descent to join the team. Diasporans, do not come back home,” she explained.

Despite the numerous challenges, Ndolo promised to do her part to book a ticket to the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games.
As stated by the 38-year-old, she will not lose focus on her objective of helping the Fencing sport to grow in the country and the continent at large.
“What else remains to be said or done? I will continue to train and compete for Team Kenyan and the African fencing system.
I will attempt to qualify for the LA Olympics. Not because I enjoy the endless, unnecessary, additional battles on the sideline, but because I set out on this path with a clear vision in mind,” commented Ndolo.

Ndolo ended by urging the key sports stakeholders in the country to wake up and invest in the industry since she cannot accomplish everything alone.
On his part, Yego has requested government officials to construct quality sporting facilities across the country to make the work of athletes, particularly runners easy.

According to the athlete who recently took part in the 2025 Doha Diamond League, the level of incompetence from key stakeholders in the government needs to stop.

“Athletics needs serious talk! But we are left here to believe all is well. It’s not! Shifting goal posts every time! This is personal thought so anybody who feels uncomfortable just mince!
Barely three months to the deadline for world championships qualifying time and we do not have a World Athletics recognized stadium! Yes Nyayo is under “renovation” we all know, but until when? Wake up,” he wrote.
Ndolo and Yego are not only one of the pioneers in their respective disciplines but they also continue to inspire thousands of Kenyans, particularly children.
