The key attractions in the race where more than eight East African runners will compete are Gudaf Tsegay and Chebet.
Chebet and Gudaf, who have raced against each other several times in the past two years, will battle it out for glory as they build up for the upcoming 2025 World Athletics Championships.
The battle between these two runners promises to be a hot one since both of them have proven that they can push boundaries.
Chebet heads to Xiamen Diamond league as the reigning 5000m Olympic champion and a 10000m world record holder.
On the other hand, Gudaf, who had an outing to forget in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games which saw her return to Ethiopia empty handed, currently holds the 5000m world record of 14:00.21.
Therefore, should Gudaf and Kenyan sensation Chebet be at their absolute best in Xiamen Diamond League, the world may witness a novel 5000m world record.
Ferdinand Omanyala versus African rivals Tebogo and Simbine in 100m race at 2025 Xiamen Diamond League
The other crunch race that will be on offer at the 2025 Xiamen Diamond League is the 100m race where several African stars are set to feature.

Although many brilliant runners like United States’ sprinter Christian Coleman have been confirmed for the event, the main battle will be between Kenya’s Omanyala, Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo and South Africa’s Akani Simbine.
Simbine, who defeated Omanyala at the recently held Botswana Golden Grand Prix, is the favorite to take the crown.
However, Omanyala and Tebogo will give him and the rest of the competitors a run for their money.
Furthermore, the current African 100m record of 9.77 seconds that was set by Omanyala in Nairobi in 2021 is also expected to fall.
Faith Kipyegon versus Habitam Alemu in 1000m race at 2025 Xiamen Diamond League
Finally, the other race that is expected to be a spectacle in the 2025 Xiamen League is the 1000m women’s category.
Although the multiple 1500m Olympic Games winner Faith Kipyegon is the likely one to win the title, the strong field that has the likes of Ethiopia’s Habitam Alemu will not make it easy for her.
Alemu, who won a medal for her country in the 2018 African Championships, is the main threat to Kipyegon in the race.
Besides winning the race, Kipyegon will be aiming to lower the world record of 2:28.98 that was set by Russian runner Svetlana Masterkova in 1998.
