Tusker FC’s shot-stopper Brian Opondo is a man on a mission, determined to secure the coveted golden glove by the end of the 2024/25 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season.

Opondo, who claimed the starting goalkeeper spot midway through the first leg, has firmly established himself as Tusker’s undisputed number one.

He has featured in 15 matches this season, recording an impressive seven clean sheets.

Now in his third campaign with the Brewers, Opondo began the season as a backup to Charles Okere.

However, his commanding performances in early appearances saw him leapfrog Joseph Ochuka previously the club’s top-choice goalkeeper to secure the starting role.

Having joined Tusker fc two seasons ago from Bidco United, Opondo initially found himself third in the pecking order behind Patrick Matasi and Brian Bwire. Last season, he moved up to second choice, continuing his steady rise.

He waited nearly 18 months before making his debut in a dominant 4-0 victory over Shabana last season, an opportunity that marked a turning point in his career with the 12-time champions.

With the league title still being within Tusker’s reach, Opondo’s personal goal remains clear: to be the best goalkeeper this season.

A pre-season injury delayed his start, allowing Ochuka to temporarily reclaim the position. Nevertheless, Opondo remained undeterred, driven by ambition and self-belief.

“My dream is to fight for the golden glove this season,” Apondo told Telecomacia.

Even before we started, I challenged myself that I wanted to be the number one keeper. For two seasons, I was patiently waiting and I knew if I got the chance, I would make use of it. I didn’t start the season in quite the best way because of injury after pre-season but I kept working and I am delighted that I am now playing consistently.”

Eight matches to go for Tusker fc Opondo aims for six more shutouts

With just eight matches remaining, the 23-year-old is still chasing his dream and believes he can secure at least six more clean sheets before the final whistle of the season.

“I sleep and dream about it every day. I want to give my best because I know I can get at least six in the remaining matches. It would be such a huge achievement for me. We speak about it with my defense every time that we want to be champions and on top of it, have the best defense line so that is a motivation to me every single game,” he added.
