Francis Kimanzi’s achievements
Before his appointment, Kimanzi had served as the interim head coach of the men’s national team prior to Benni McCarthy taking over earlier this month.
During his interim tenure, Kimanzi led the national team to the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar earlier this year, where Kenya was eliminated by the host Zanzibar at the Gombani Stadium on Pemba Island.
The 48-year-old has a rich history with Kenyan football, having served as the national team’s head coach on four occasions.
He first took the role in 2008-2009, was dismissed, then reappointed in 2011-2012, and later took over again in 2019-2020.
Kimanzi’s extensive football knowledge extends to his management of local clubs, including Mathare United, Tusker FC, Sofapaka and Wazito (formerly Muhoroni Youth).
Recently, Kimanzi was seen alongside newly appointed head coach Benni McCarthy at the Ulinzi Sports Complex during his first training session, assisting in the selection of players for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Gabon later this month.
