Githurai All Stars and Gor Mahia players in action at Dandora//PHoto Gor Mahia

Githurai All Stars head coach Fredrick Ochieng has tipped Gor Mahia to win the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup 2025 after the Kenyan giants eliminated them in their Round of 32 match played over the weekend at the Dandora Stadium.

Gor Mahia triumphed over GAS with a 5-0 victory, securing a spot in the last 16 as Austin Odhiambo netted a brace while Gedeon Bendeka, Mark Shaban and Alpha Onyango each scored once.

Despite the setback, Ochieng did not hesitate to acknowledge that his team is still in a learning phase. He emphasized that while his players put in their best effort, Gor Mahia were the clear favorites going into the match.

“I don’t think there’s any problem losing to Gor Mahia, we are still in the learning process. They are a team that is above us and we have gained some valuable experience that we will work on. I can’t complain—the boys really gave their best today,” Ochieng told FKF Cup media after the match.

The coach further revealed his admiration for Gor Mahia, admitting he is a fan of the club and predicting their victory in this year’s competition. He also vowed to continue attending their matches, as he remains a supporter.

“I want to congratulate Gor Mahia and I just pray for them to win this title. Despite what they have done to us I will keep attending their matches because I am still their fan.

As far as I am the Githurai Stars coach, Gor Mahia has been our club for a long time. I just pray for them to prosper. On our side, we will work on our mistakes as we move into our next fixtures.”

Tough challenge for Gor Mahia

Now, having qualified, Gor Mahia faces a tough challenge in the round of 16 as they will take on top-flight side Bandari FC.

Sinisa Mihic’s side last won the Cup in 2021, defeating AFC Leopards 4-2 in a post-match penalty shootout.

This year, they will be eager to reclaim the title while also securing Sinisa’s first or second trophy as manager.

Gor Mahia also sits third in the Football Federation Premier League with 39 points, just three points behind leaders Kenya Police, and will aim to challenge for that title as well.
