Shabana coach Peter Okidi

Despite their resounding 4-1 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz, Shabana FC manager Peter Okidi is not pleased with his team after they conceded a late goal that denied them a seventh clean sheet on Sunday afternoon at the Gusii Stadium.

Shabana overwhelmed Kakamega Homeboyz with goals to end their unbeaten run, with Elvis Osok netting the first, followed by Oscar Juma’s brace on his debut. Brian Michira then added the fourth goal, bringing his season tally to nine.

Henry Omolo scored the lone goal for Homeboyz in the dying minutes of the match, which spoiled Shabana’s clean sheet ambitions, leaving their tally at six clean sheets from the 23 matches played so far this season.

Despite the victory, which saw them secure 33 points and maintain their position in sixth place, Okidi is far from satisfied with the team’s performance.

“While we are pleased with the win, we are frustrated because we wanted to keep a clean sheet today. We secured the three points and scored goals, but conceding in the final moments is disappointing.

We need to revisit our approach and figure out why we keep conceding late goals. It is frustrating, and it’s something we must address,” Okidi explained after the match.

In their previous encounter, Shabana faced Tusker FC at the Kenyatta Stadium, where they also conceded a late equalizer, allowing Tusker to force a draw.

This recurring issue has prompted Okidi to focus on resolving the team’s vulnerability in the final stages of matches.

“As I mentioned, we are frustrated as a technical bench, and even the players are disappointed with the goal we conceded. If you examine the goal closely, it mirrors the one we conceded against Tusker,” Okidi noted during an interview with Azam TV.

“When a mistake keeps happening, it indicates that something is amiss. As a coaching staff, it is our responsibility to identify what we are doing wrong and work towards correcting it to ensure we regain our clean sheet status as we get the three points.”

With Shabana sitting just eight points behind league leaders Kenya Police (41), who have conceded 20 goals while scoring 24, Okidi’s team will need to address their defensive frailties if they hope to challenge for higher positions as the season progresses.
