“Japan is a second home for me. So, running in Tokyo is a joy for me. And there are so many people providing support for me while I am competing in the race. The course is excellent. I think all the athletes will be able to achieve good times.
In terms of world athletics championships, I don’t know what is going to happen. So, it is still a question mark,” explained Wanjiru.
Stiff competition
The one-time African Games silver medalist will have to fight for the ticket to the world championships with several other stars.
These stars include the current world record holder Ruth Chepngetich, multiple Boston Marathon winner Hellen Obiri and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games winner Peres Jepchirchir.
Nonetheless, Wanjiru can increase her chances of making it to Kenya’s squad by improving her lifetime best on Sunday.
