The Kenya women’s national football team, Harambee Starlets, is set to battle with Tunisia in a must-win Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 second leg qualifier match on Wednesday evening.

Harambee Starlets, who are coached by Beldine Odemba, will be seeking to hurt the hosts in the encounter that will be staged at the Stade Olympique De Sousse from 6 PM East African Time (EAT).

The two sides played to a barren draw in the first leg tie that was held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex a few days ago in a match Starlets created numerous chances but did very little to turn them into goals.

Poor away record

However, the team, which will be aiming to qualify for the WAFCON tournament for the first time since their debut in the 2016 edition, have a final opportunity to put smiles on the faces of their supporters in the upcoming game.

However, a win in foreign soil is expected to be difficult to attain for Harambee Starlets since they are yet to win a WAFCON qualifier away match since 2006.

Speaking ahead of the game, Odemba has hinted that she will approach the fixture with different tactics because they need nothing less than a victory.

“I believe it is going to be a different match when we play away compared to playing at home. When we go to Tunisia, believe me, they will open the game and we will equally open the game because we need to score goals,” she explained.

Attacking lineup

The celebrated tactician, who also serves as the head coach to one of the leading clubs in the Football Kenya Federation Women Premier League (FKFWPL), traveled with a lot of forwards to Tunisia, an indication that she will throw everything at their opponent.

Some of the players like Jentrix Shikangwa, who played for less than 10 minutes in the first leg, are expected to start.

Odemba is likely to go with an attacking line up that has the likes of Mwanalima Adam, Shikangwa and Violet Nanjala.

The latter currently plays professional football in North Africa, hence she will not have a problem with the weather condition.

Should Harambee Starlets beat Tunisia, they will face Gambia, who secured a 4-1 aggregate win over Niger in the final qualification round.
