Nairobi City Stars’ new head coach Salim Babu has stated that the club will not be making any signings in this January transfer window.

Instead, they will focus on utilizing the young players within the club to lift them from the relegation zone to a better position this season.

Simba wa Nairobi have been experiencing their worst performance this season, which led to the stepping down of their head coach Nicholas Muyoti earlier this month.

City Stars are yet to win a match in their last seven games, a run that has placed them in 16th place on the log with 17 points from four wins and five draws in their 18 matches.

City Stars suffered their ninth defeat on Sunday where they narrowly lost 1-0 to Bandari at KPA Mbaraki grounds in Mombasa.

However, the new manager, who has been out of action since he was fired by Police FC, stated that it is too early for the club to be judged as underdogs who will be relegated this season.

He is confident the team will get out of the relegation zone.

“It’s too early to start worrying,” Babu told Citizen. “Based on the recent performances of our players, I’m confident that we’ll be out of that zone soon. I truly believe we don’t belong there.”

Will Salim Babu get busy in the transfer window?

Babu also mentioned that despite the transfer window opening on January 31, the club has no plans to add new players.

Alternatively, they will focus on giving the young players a chance to play, and their aim is to retain all current players.

“We have a solid group of young and capable players,” he stated. “Bringing in new recruits would set us back, so we’ll focus on retaining the players we have. I’m confident that we’ll soon leave the relegation zone.”

One of the young players Babu is eager to work with is ace attacking midfielder Mohammed Ali Bajaber, 21, who has been sensational for the club this season despite their setbacks.

Another key player is Japanese forward Yuto Kusaba, 24, who is also a formidable player and will help the team rise out of the relegation spot.

Nairobi City Stars will aim for a rebound when they face AFC Leopards on Sunday at the Dandora Stadium.
