Tusker FC assumed control of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) title race on Saturday after caging Ulinzi Stars.
Tusker bagged a 1-0 victory in the evenly contested encounter that was played at the Dandora Stadium in Nairobi County.
From the first whistle, each side braved the scorching sun and made their intentions of picking up the maximum points clear.
Tusker FC had an opportunity to take the lead in the 19th minute but FKFPL leading goal scorer Ryan Ogam failed to utilize it.

The 20-year-old, who had scored an impressive 15 goals in 13 matches coming into this fixture, unleashed a shot that did not trouble Ulinzi Stars. Seven minutes later, the soldiers were denied by Brian Opondo’s brilliant save.
Tusker came close to breaking the deadlock again in the 34th minute of the proceedings when George Kaddu’s free kick came into contact with the crossbar and flew out.

The introduction of Balecho rejuvenated the Brewers, who increased their tempo as they continued to search for the opener.
Their efforts were rewarded in the 54th minute when Chrispine Erambo, who was part of the Harambee Stars squad that lifted the 2024 four-nation cup in Malawi, headed the ball into the net after Dennis “Decha” Wanjala’s corner kick delivery.

After going behind, Ulinzi Stars did their best to find an equalizer but luck was not on their side. They enjoyed a lot of possession with Javan Omondi, whose goal helped them beat Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 at the same venue last weekend, causing a lot of problems for the Tusker backline.
However, Tusker managed to escape with the slim victory that increased their tally to 36 points and ensured they returned to the top of the FKFPL table.

The Brewers will be praying for Mara Sugar to beat Kenya Police FC in the fixture that is scheduled to be played on Monday for them to continue holding the top spot.
Meanwhile, the defeat left Ulinzi Stars stuck at position 11 with 22 points, similar to Murang’a Seals, who have a game in hand.
