Leading online gaming firm SportPesa have introduced a new bonus structure as Kenya’s national rugby sevens team, Shujaa, competes in the Perth leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series this weekend in Australia.

With 9 Million shillings up for grabs, Shujaa will be looking to hit an improved finish to go up the ranks from the current 9th place with 11 points following the opening two legs played so far in Dubai and Cape Town.

SportPesa’s CEO Hon. Cpt. Ronald Karauri affirmed the continuous support from the team’s primary partner and believes it will be a boost for their performance in the current Sevens series.

“All the best to the boys and we are confident that you have the potential to raise the Kenyan flag even higher. You have done it before, and nothing stops you from doing it this time.

We rally the Kenyans in Australia to fill up Kenya Corner and back home, we will be glued to cheer you on,” said Hon. Cpt. Karauri.

Under this structure, each member of the 18-member squad stands to earn KES 100,000 for a Cup win, KES 75,000 for a runner-up finish, and KES 50,000 for third place, KES 32,000 for 4th place, KES 20,000 for 5th place and KES 15,000 for 6th place.

This financial boost aims to motivate players and enhance their performance even as they seek to maintain their spot in the competitive series that was cut down from 16 to 12 teams.

“The Kenya Rugby Union remains committed to supporting Shujaa in achieving their full potential.

The new bonus structure, supported by SportPesa, is a testament to our dedication to fostering a winning culture within the team by rewarding excellence and encouraging the squad to push for the highest honors in the series”, said KRU Chief Executive Officer Thomas Odundo.

SportPesa’s unwavering support has been instrumental in ensuring Shujaa’s preparations and overall welfare is prioritized.

In November 2024, Shujaa received Kes 84 million sponsorship from SportPesa geared towards key logistical and training enhancements for their World Rugby Series comeback following their promotion from the Challenger Series.
