Bob Munro will be remembered as one of the iconic figures who helped transform Kenyan football.

Through the Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA), they created a community development initiative aimed at empowering youth and promoting community growth through sports in the Mathare slums.

Inspired by the children there, they helped establish clubs like Mathare United.

In recognition of his contributions, Munro was honored by President William Ruto on December 12, 2024, during Kenya’s 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations and was awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS).

Born in Canada, Munro had been living in Kenya since 1985. In 1987, he established MYSA as a self-help youth group focused on empowering young people, especially in the slums.

As SportPesa Blog, we mourn the passing of this legendary figure who made significant contributions to Kenyan football and, more importantly, to the development of youth in sports.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
