Kabras Sugar RFC and KCB RFC were the big winners of Kenya Cup match week five on Saturday evening.

Kabras RFC continued with their winning streak after running riot against visitors Mwamba in a one sided encounter that was staged at the Kakamega Showground.

The reigning champions started the match on a high with Patrick Sabatia scoring the opening try that was converted by Eric Cantona to make the scoreboard read 7-0.

Shortly after taking the lead, Barry Robinson made it 12-0 before Cantona made another successful conversion to give the hosts a 14-0 lead.

Kabras RFC’s third and fourth tries came courtesy of the talented youngster Jackson Siketa and Cantona, with the latter converting both of them to put the Carlos Katywa-coached side in full control of the proceedings.

Cantona was then fully involved in the fifth try with Barry Robinson getting his name in the score sheet as Kabras went to the half time break with a considerable 42-0 lead.

The situation was similar in the second half with Kabras controlling the proceedings from start to finish.

The visitors tried all they could to get a consolation try but the hosts stood firm and extended their lead through  Clinton Litali, Collins Indeche, and Griffin Chao, who netted an impressive hat-trick.

The end result was a huge 73-0 win for the Sugar men which brought their tally so far this season to 25 points from five matches.

Impala get second win

Elsewhere, hosts Impala displayed nerves of steel to narrowly beat Kisumu RFC 17-12 in an entertaining fixture that was played at the Impala Grounds.

Impala broke the deadlock after getting a penalty a few minutes before Kisumu RFC made it 7-3. The Nairobi based side reduced the deficit to one after scoring another penalty.

However, the visitors scored another try but failed to convert it this time round.

The try did not make Impala players lose morale and their persistence eventually helping them to equalize via two penalties.

Impala, who had seven points coming into this match, got their first try of the match through Quinter Ongo to give them the win.

The Lion continues to roar

In other matches, KCB RFC secured a 34-5 win over Nakuru RFC in a tie that was played in Ruaraka while Nondies narrowly squeezed past Kenya Harlequin with a 26-24 victory.

Meanwhile, Menengai Oilers walloped Blak Blad 57-15 with Strathmore Leos suffering a 18-8 defeat at the hands of South Coast Pirates.

The moment of the weekend came from South Coast Pirates who managed their first ever win in the top tier after securing an 18-8 win over struggling Strathmore Leos.
