Charles Okere

Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere has lamented that the departure of Shaphan Siwa from the club has left a significant void.

However, he remains optimistic that someone will step up and fill his position in due course.

Siwa left the Brewers during the mid-January transfer window after his contract with the club expired.

Yet, his journey continues as he has signed a two-year deal with Kagera Sugar, a top-flight Tanzanian club.

Siwa had been one of the key players in Okere’s squad, showcasing exceptional form this season with 10 goals contribution: nine assists, and one goal.

His efforts had helped keep the Ruaraka-based club in the top four, as they aim for another title, which they last won in 2021.

Now, he moves to Kagera Sugar, currently sitting 15th in the Tanzanian league with 11 points after 15 matches.

Speaking after their 2-1 defeat to Shabana on Saturday at the Gusii Stadium, Okere acknowledged the impact of Siwa’s departure as he had become one of the team’s best players and had started to fully understand the club’s philosophy and playing style.

“What I can say about Siwa’s exit from the club is that it will impact us, as he was one of the players who had started to grasp the philosophy of our game and how we play,” Okere said.

However, Okere believes there are players like John Njuguna, who performed well against Shabana, and Joseph Mwangi, who is also adapting well, will step up and deliver good results in due time.

“As I have said, you have seen players like Njuguna, who played well today, as well as Mwangi, who has also stepped in well in that position. It’s just a matter of time before they start to show results for the club,” Okere added.

“We also missed Ogam, who was on international duty, but it was an opportunity for others to showcase their skills. Every player needs the chance to prove themselves and today they performed admirably. I cannot complain; they gave their best, and tomorrow I hope they willl do even better.”

Following this setback, Okere will now prepare the team for their midweek fixture on Wednesday, where they will face Bandari FC.
