Shabana FC and Posta Rangers registered impressive wins in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) on Saturday afternoon.
Shabana came from a goal behind to beat one of the title favorites Tusker FC 2-1 in a crunch fixture that was played at the Gusii Stadium in Kisii County.
Tusker started the match brilliantly and could have taken the lead in the fourth minute when George Kaddu fired a shot that troubled the hosts’ goalkeeper Maxwell Muchesia before being cleared away by one of the defenders.
Although Shabana also created several goal scoring chances, Tusker were the one who managed to break the deadlock in the 11th minute via Charles Momanyi.

The goal was made possible by Thomas Omole, who whipped in an excellent free kick into Shabana’s box, which was directed into the back of the net by Momanyi.
However, the slim lead was cancelled in the 45th minute when Brian Michira combined with Dennis Okoth, who fired the ball into the net to send the home supporters into wild celebrations.
At the start of the second half, the visitors were forced to make a change with Joseph Mwangi replacing John Njuguna, who picked up an injury.
The Brewers had a golden opportunity to regain control of the match in the 56th minute but Thomas Omole did not utilize it. All he had to do was to tap the ball in from a close range.
As the game continued, Shabana started to have more of the ball, and eventually took the lead with less than ten minutes remaining to the end of the regulation time. The goal came courtesy of Ezekiah Omuri, who was assisted by Austine Odongo.
The Glamour Boys, as they are popularly by the fans around the world, managed to hold on to the lead and collected all the three points.
The win enabled them to climb to the fifth position in the table standings with 23 points, four less than league leaders KCB FC.

Nicholas Muyoti resigns after Nairobi City Stars’ disappointing show
Elsewhere, Nairobi City Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat in the hands of the bottom-placed side Posta Rangers in a match that was played in Machakos.
Similar to Shabana, Posta Rangers also came from behind to secure a win. The mailmen scored their goals through Lewis Shivachi and Oliver Maloba in the 27th and 90+1 minutes respectively to cancel Vincent Owino’s fourth minute strike.
The disappointing defeat forced Nairobi City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti, who has previously played for the national team Harambee Stars, to resign.

“Nairobi City Stars wishes to announce that following a formal request, Nicholas Muyoti has stepped down from his role as head coach.
It was a good journey and it’s sad to see you leave, all the best gaffer,” read a statement from the club.
Muyoti has left Simba wa Nairobi stuck at position 14 with 16 points after 16 fixtures. The club, which earned promotion to the league a few years ago, is just two points away from the relegation zone.
Up next for them is a tricky clash against a high flying KCB FC side slated for Sunday, January 19.
