Kenya 7s

The men’s national rugby 7s side, Shujaa, will need to wait till the final Pool B game between Spain and Australia to know whether they will book their spot in the Cape Town 7s 2024 main cup semis.

This is after they succumbed to a 7-14 defeat against Spain in their final group match, leaving them in the hands of the final game.

Having beaten Australia 19-12 in the opening match, Shujaa needed a win to secure their spot in the last four but came up short in their loss, leaving them with fate out of their control.

Shujaa, who managed a bonus point in their loss, now need Australia to win but with a margin of less than seven to stand a chance of progression.

In the clash, Francisco Cosculluela gave Spain a 0-7 half time lead following his own successful conversion but Patrick Odongo restored parity two minutes into the second half after unleashing his wheels from the half way line before touching down under the posts as Amaitsa converted.

Jeremy Trevithick then punished the Kenyans who had committed themselves on the ruck, leaving a gap in defence as Spain ended up getting the 14-7 victory.

The result meant Kenya are top on 4 points, Spain second on 3 points while Australia is third on 1 point.

Spain take on Australia at 1857EAT.
