Ex-Harambee Stars head coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee has been appointed to serve in the national steering committee for the upcoming 2025 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments.

Mulee, who guided Harambee Stars to the 2004 AFCON tournament, is expected to work closely together with other 20 members of the committee to ensure the country prepares well for the two continental football events.

The appointment was made public via the latest Kenya Gazette notice that was published on Friday, December 6.

“Now therefore, the cabinet secretary for Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the Executive Order No. 2 of 2023 and the Sports Act, 2013 do establish the Pamoja CHAN 2024 and Pamoja AFCON 2027 multi agency team,” the statement read in part.

The steering committee is headed by Nicholas Musonye, who has previously served as the secretary general of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA).

The other big names that will sit in the committee include former Harambee Starlets skipper Terry Ouko and retired Nation Media Group sports Editor Elias Makori.

According to the notice, the multi-agency team will get their funding from diverse sources including donations from well-wishers.

“The CHAN-AFCON MAT shall be financed through funding appropriate for the CHAN-AFCON MAT used by the national government and donations and endowment to realize Pamoja CHAN 2024 and Pamoja AFCON 2027,” the notice stated.

Meanwhile, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) secretary general Patrick Korir and Homeboyz Entertainment Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mike Rabar, have been picked to serve in the secretariat that has nine members.

Some of the functions of this multi-agency team will include conducting promotional campaigns, fostering tourism and implementing safety measures.

Moreover, the agency will recruit staff and volunteers to help them in the preparation of the eagerly anticipated championships.

 Kenya is expected to host the two tournaments alongside its East African neighbors Uganda and Tanzania.

The CHAN event is planned to be held between February 1 and February 28 while AFCON will start in June, 2027.
