  • The championship that was staged in Johannesburg attracted competitors from different countries including the host, Lesotho, Zambia, Malawi, Eswatini, Namibia, and Madagascar.

Kenyan Esports player Sylvia Gathoni famously known as ‘QueenArrow’ has registered an impressive performance in the 2024 Msanzi Esports Champions tournament in South Africa.

QueenArrow finished second in the Tekken Africa queens challenge, beating competitors from different parts of the continent in the process.

However, despite her top notch gaming skills, QueenArrow could not overcome South Africa’s Zahraa Khan, who produced a dominant display to clinch the top spot.

Khan, who goes by the name ‘Iron-Fist’, has been in the sport that is gaining momentum in Africa, for over seven years.

The third position went to Madagascar’s ‘Sentaku’ Safidy Andrianisoa while Malawi’s ‘Gwyn-Stacy’ Matimbe Gweyneth Edina settled for the fourth position.

Meanwhile, Eswatini’s ‘Sugar’ Setsabile Shabangu and Namibia’s ‘Atmbytes’ Asante Sana Maruwasa were tied in the fifth position with the same case applying to Zambia’s ‘LiaRose’ Bwalia Nkumbula and Lesotho’s ‘EL’ Liteboho Thebe, who both finished seventh.

Reacting after the eye-catching display, QueenArrow could not hide her joy as she described the event as one of the best ever.

“My time at the Mzansi Esports Championship was a hell of a vibe and I enjoyed interacting with everyone and showing my greatest greatness on such a stage.

Second place for this girl! All things considered, I am grateful, happy and blessed! Thank you to all who made this happen,” she stated.

In addition, the player who became the first Kenyan woman to bag a contract from a professional Esports team in 2018, added that these types of championships give women a chance to chase their dreams.

“These events allow women who are new to the world of gaming and Esports get a foothold into the space without the undue scrutiny that is usually placed on minorities,” noted QueenArrow.

The 26-year-old ended by appreciating all the people who spared their time to interact with her during the tournament.

On her part, Iron-Fist expressed optimism that the event will make it possible for her to feature in international competitions and inspire more girls to embrace the sport.
