Gor Mahia

After a frustrating on week, defending Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon as they face Bandari FC at the Ukunda Showground in their sixth match of the season.

Gor Mahia, under new head coach Leonardo Neiva, are feeling the pressure following back-to-back setbacks in their two previous fixtures and will be eager to bounce back and defend their title.

Last Monday, K’Ogalo suffered a 2-1 defeat to Nairobi City Stars at Kenyatta Stadium.

The loss was followed by another disappointing result on Saturday as they blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against Murang’a Seals at the same venue.

In the first match against City Stars, fans understood the absence of key players due to disciplinary issues and national team duty.

However, the draw against Murang’a Seals proved more controversial, as several players had returned to the squad, and tensions flared in the stands with some fans even confronting the coach who required the intervention of stewards and police officers to escape any further harm.

In contrast, Bandari is unbeaten, with two wins and three draws as they sit in sixth place with 9 points. They have three games in hand, giving them a significant advantage in the standings.

Bandari started the season with a 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers, followed by a 1-0 victory over Mara Sugar and a win against Sofapaka. They’ve also recorded 0-0 draws against Murang’a Seals and Talanta FC.

Gor Mahia, currently in 10th place with 8 points, will need to improve if they are to defend their title.

The two teams last met in March with Bandari recording a 1-0 win.

Elsewhere, unbeaten Police FC will be in action against Sofapaka at Dandora. Police are the only team this season that has played fewer matches due to continental commitments and the postponement of some league fixtures.

On the other hand, Sofapaka has found some form in their last two matches after a shaky start under new coach Robert Matano.

Their recent wins, including a big victory over Kakamega Homeboyz and another over Shabana, have lifted them to 11th place with 7 points, moving away from the relegation zone.
