Tusker FC midfielder David Odoyo has disclosed that he is looking forward to meeting experienced Kenyan international Anthony Akumu for the first time.
Odoyo recently got his maiden call-up to the Kenya men’s national team ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifying fixtures against Cameroon set for 11 and 14 October.
According to the Kakamega High School alumni, the call up is a double blessing to him since he would get a lifetime opportunity to meet and interact with his role model.

“I usually enjoy how Akumu plays football. Since I was young, I have been watching him even when he was playing for Gor Mahia.
I used to admire the way he plays. Even though I haven’t ever met with him in my life, from the look of things, he is really a nice person,” he said.
Odoyo added that meeting and playing alongside Akumu will enhance his experience since he will get an opportunity to learn a lot of things from the Iranian-based player.
Odoyo has been brilliant addition for Tusker FC since joining the former Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) champions last season.
David Odoyo in Harambee Stars training

He has formed a formidable partnership in the Brewers’ midfield with the 19-year-old Chris Erambo who was also included in the Harambee Stars provisional squad announced by head coach Engin Firat earlier this week.
Harambee Stars are scheduled to play the first leg against Cameroon on Friday, October 11 in Doula before hosting them in Kampala a few days later.
The second-leg would have been played in Kenya, but the country does not have a stadium that meets the required standards at the moment.
The Moi International Sports Complex (MISC), Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium are currently undergoing maintenance in preparation for the upcoming 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament set to be jointly staged in East Africa alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
