Nairobi City Thunder head coach Brad Ibs is positive about his team’s progress as they prepare for the Basketball Africa League in December.

Before a friendly match where they defeated Kenya All Stars 111-83, Ibs expressed that this marks a new journey for him, though the team is well-prepared.

“It’s a new journey for me. I haven’t been there before but I’ve been watching a lot of national league finals. I feel confident and believe we are improving day by day,” he told Sports Eye.

Regarding new players, Ibs mentioned they have signed six athletes with experience at higher levels, which he believes is crucial as they gear up for the Africa BAL qualifiers. He also highlighted the potential of the young players on the team.

“We have added six players who have played at higher levels as we enter the BAL. the competition level increases, so having players with that experience is obviously very important,” he said.

“You’ll see a lot of our young players thrive and grow, complementing some of our existing talents,” he added.

The champions of the Kenya National Basketball Men’s Premier League have brought on board notable players including William Sydney, an American from the NBA G League, Ucheanna Iroegbu, an American-Nigerian point guard who played in Qatar as well as Michael Diouf, Tyler Ongwae, Derrick Ogechi and Eugine Adera from Equity Dumas.

Thunder clinched their place in the BAL qualifiers by defeating KPA in the league finals and will be aiming to become the first Kenyan team to reach the Round of 16. Angola’s Petro de Luanda are the African Defending champions.
