Current English Premier League leaders Liverpool are set to welcome Chelsea at the petrifying Anfield Stadium in a crunch league fixture set for Wednesday night, January 31.

Liverpool will be seeking to pick up all three points and extend their lead at the top of the table where they currently sit having amassed 48 points so far this season, five more than the defending champions Manchester City who have a game in hand. 

Wednesday’s clash comes just days after celebrated manager Jurgen Klopp shocked Liverpool supporters by revealing that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season due to what he termed as running out of energy.

Meanwhile, Chelsea travel to Anfield after securing a ticket to the final of the Carabao Cup and registering a goalless draw with Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

Despite their good run in the FA and EFL Cup this season, the Mauricio Pochettino-coached side have struggled in the league but they appear to be slowly finding their footing.

The Blues have won four of their five recent meetings, beating the likes of Fulham, Crystal Palace and Luton Town in the process but face a huge ask if they are to get one over Liverpool.

Chelsea skipper Reece James alongside the duo of Wesley Fofana, and Marc Cucurella will miss the match due to injuries. James is nursing a hamstring injury while Fofana and Cucurella have ACL and ankle issues.

Liverpool on the other hand will have to face Chelsea without Joel Matip (knee), Stefan Bajcetic (calf), Mohamed Salah (muscle) and Thiago Alcantara (hip). Summer signing Wataru Endo is also busy with Japan at the ongoing Asian Cup in Qatar. 

Klopp is also likely to welcome versatile player Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alexis Mac Allister, Andrew Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai back to the starting lineup.
