The Fourth Round of the 2026/27 SportPesa League season delivered another fascinating round of action, with goals, first victories, red cards and a tightly congested table providing plenty to discuss.
Here are seven of the major talking points from Gameweek 4.

Gor Mahia already creating separation
Four matches into the campaign, Gor Mahia are beginning to establish themselves at the top of the table.
The defending champions maintained their perfect start with a 1-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz, taking their tally to four wins from four matches.
Gor Mahia have collected 12 points from a possible 12 and are already creating some separation from the chasing pack. Their consistency has been particularly impressive, with just two goals conceded across their opening four matches.

A congested battle behind the leadersWhile Gor Mahia have enjoyed a perfect start, the battle immediately behind them remains extremely tight.KCB sit second on seven points, while Murang’a SEAL, Mara Sugar, AFC Leopards and Shabana are all on six points.
Further down the table, another cluster of teams are separated by just a few points, meaning the standings could change significantly with every round.
At this stage of the campaign, one victory can propel a team several places up the table, while a defeat can have the opposite effect.
Murang’a SEAL’s explosive attack
Murang’a SEAL emerged from Gameweek 4 with the league’s most productive attack.Their 3-2 victory over Nairobi United took their tally to 11 goals in four matches, the highest in the league.
However, the attacking numbers also highlight a potential weakness. SEAL have conceded nine goals, meaning their games have produced plenty of entertainment but also exposed defensive vulnerabilities.
The challenge for Murang’a will be finding the balance between their attacking ambition and defensive solidity.

Unbeaten does not necessarily mean dominant
Several teams remain unbeaten after four Gameweeks, but their records tell different stories. Mara Sugar, AFC Leopards and Shabana have all avoided defeat, yet each has recorded only one victory and three draws.
Migori Youth are also yet to lose, but victories have been difficult to come by having drawn all their three matches.
AFC Leopards’ attacking concerns
AFC Leopards remain unbeaten, but their attacking output is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.Ingwe have scored just two goals in four matches, with three of their fixtures ending in goalless draws.
Their defensive record has kept them competitive, but the lack of goals is preventing them from converting those performances into victories.
The three goalless draws they have been involved in provide perhaps the clearest evidence of the problem: if the attack does not improve, their otherwise solid defensive performances may not be enough.

Three teams finally get off the mark
Gameweek 4 brought important first victories for APS Bomet, Mathare United and Kenya Police.APS Bomet produced one of the biggest results of the round with a 3-0 victory over 3K FC.
Meanwhile Mathare United beat Tusker 2-1.Kenya Police also picked up their first victory, defeating Ulinzi Stars 1-0 at the Police Sacco Stadium.
Red cards beginning to shape the season
Discipline also emerged as a significant storyline in Gameweek 4, with both Posta Rangers and Mathare United reduced to 10 men.Posta Rangers received their second red card of the season during their goalless draw against Bandari after Ponda Karisa was sent off, raising questions about their disciplinary record just four Gameweeks into the campaign.
Mathare United also had to play with 10 men against Tusker after Michael Mutinda was sent off following a second yellow card. The difference was that Mathare managed to hold on and secure a 2-1 victory despite the numerical disadvantage.
