Liverpool vs Tottenham: Carabao Cup 2026/27 Match Preview, Team News & Kick-Off Time

Liverpool vs Tottenham meet at Anfield on Tuesday, 15 September 2026 in the third round of the Carabao Cup, with kick-off scheduled for 22:00 EAT / 20:00 BST. Liverpool begin their campaign at this stage, while Tottenham reached round three after a 5-1 win over Charlton Athletic.

Both teams come into the tie after goalless Premier League draws at the weekend. Liverpool were held 0-0 by Fulham at Anfield, while Tottenham drew 0-0 with Everton. The short turnaround means squad management and confirmed availability are central to the build-up.

This preview covers the verified match details, latest team news, recent form and head-to-head context. The confirmed starting lineups will be known once both clubs release their teams before kick-off.

The tie was initially scheduled for Wednesday, 16 September but was moved forward by one day after UEFA Champions League scheduling created a clash. The kick-off time remained 20:00 BST, which is 22:00 EAT.

Liverpool enter the Carabao Cup in the third round, while Tottenham have already played once in the competition this season. If the score is level after 90 minutes, there is no extra time in round three; the winner is decided by a penalty shootout.

Liverpool will make at least one confirmed change in goal. Andoni Iraola has said Giorgi Mamardashvili will start, giving the goalkeeper his first appearance of the 2026/27 season.

Joe Gomez is available again after recovering from the muscle injury he suffered in pre-season. Iraola has indicated that Gomez’s minutes still need to be managed, so his availability does not automatically mean a full 90 minutes.

Conor Bradley, Federico Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni remain unavailable. The wider selection will also be influenced by Liverpool’s schedule, with this their third game in a short period after the Champions League meeting with Atlético Madrid and Saturday’s league draw with Fulham.

Liverpool were held 0-0 by Fulham at Anfield on 12 September. Iraola acknowledged afterwards that his side lacked freshness and did not create enough clear scoring chances, making rotation a realistic consideration for the cup tie.

Tottenham have received a boost with Destiny Udogie available again after missing the weekend draw with Everton. Roberto De Zerbi has, however, confirmed several absences before the trip to Anfield.

Sandro Tonali is unavailable after picking up a knock against Everton, while Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski remain out. Richarlison will also not feature. Mykhailo Mudryk, Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons are among Tottenham’s other sidelined players.

James Maddison returned to the matchday squad against Everton after a shoulder problem, giving De Zerbi another midfield option. The Spurs coach has also indicated that players who have had fewer minutes may be involved at Anfield.

Tottenham’s latest league game finished 0-0 against Everton. They created promising situations without finding a breakthrough, but their previous Carabao Cup match produced a very different attacking result as they beat Charlton Athletic 5-1 in round two.

Liverpool have had the stronger recent record in this fixture, although the most recent meeting ended level. The clubs drew 1-1 at Anfield in March 2026 after Dominik Szoboszlai scored for Liverpool and Richarlison equalised late for Tottenham.

Their most recent Carabao Cup tie came in the 2024/25 semi-finals. Tottenham won the first leg 1-0, but Liverpool overturned the deficit with a 4-0 victory at Anfield to advance 4-1 on aggregate.

That history gives the fixture a clear cup reference point, but the current tie is a single-match third-round contest. With both sides managing injuries and a congested schedule, the confirmed lineups will be especially important.
