Kabras Sugar cruise into Dala 7s semi-finals with commanding victory over Daystar Falcons

Kabras Sugar RFC booked their place in the Main Cup semi-finals at the 2026 Dala 7s after producing a clinical display to beat Daystar Falcons 29-5 in an entertaining quarter-final clash at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu.

The sugar millers combined blistering pace, slick handling and relentless defence to overpower a dangerous Daystar side, setting up another step in their pursuit of the Dala 7s title.

Kabras wasted little time stamping their authority on the contest. Straight from the opening exchanges, they moved the ball through the hands with precision before releasing Michael Lukusi into space.

The speedster shifted through the gears and burned past the Falcons defence to dot down the opening try. The conversion attempt drifted wide, leaving Kabras with a 5-0 advantage.

The early score lifted the confidence of the Kakamega-based outfit, who dominated both territory and possession. Their aggressive kick chase and disciplined defensive line repeatedly forced Daystar deep into their own half, denying the Falcons an opportunity to launch meaningful attacks.

The pressure eventually paid off once again as Lukusi completed his brace. After sustained phases inside the Daystar 22, Kabras recycled possession patiently before creating an overlap that allowed Lukusi to sprint over for his second try of the afternoon. This time, the conversion was successful, extending the lead to 12-0.

Kabras’ dangerous back-three combination of Jackson Siketa, Michael Lukusi and Rayvon Ambale proved to be a constant threat throughout the opening half. Their pace under the high ball, defensive work rate and counter-attacking ability kept Daystar pinned back for long spells despite the Falcons’ reputation as one of the quickest sides on the circuit.

Daystar eventually found a breakthrough after exploiting space in midfield. A swift transition created a line break before Arnold Ogonda took over, showing remarkable strength and acceleration to shrug off challenges from Lukusi and Siketa before racing away to score under pressure. The conversion was unsuccessful as the Falcons reduced the deficit to 12-5.

Any hopes of a Daystar comeback were quickly extinguished as Kabras responded in emphatic fashion. Michael Lukusi turned provider this time, breaking through the defensive line before delivering a perfectly timed offload to Rayvon Ambale, who supported brilliantly to race in for Kabras’ third try. Jackson Siketa was unable to add the extras, but the sugar millers had restored control at 17-5.

Kabras continued to move through the gears in the second half, showcasing the expansive attacking rugby that has made them one of the favourites on the SportPesa National 7s Circuit. Quick ball movement, seamless offloads and intelligent support lines repeatedly opened up the Falcons’ defence.

Rayvon Ambale was once again at the heart of the action, producing a series of darting runs that unsettled the Daystar defence before releasing Adrian Khwesa in space. Khwesa crossed the whitewash untouched, with Siketa converting successfully to stretch the lead to 24-5.

The sugar millers were far from finished. With Daystar struggling to contain the relentless attacking waves, Kabras struck once more in the closing stages. Khwesa completed his brace after another flowing move that sliced through the Falcons’ defence, putting the result beyond doubt at 29-5.

Despite Daystar’s determination, Kabras’ defensive discipline ensured they never found another way through. The sugar millers comfortably saw out the remaining minutes, controlling possession and closing out an impressive 29-5 victory.

The convincing win sends Kabras Sugar into the Dala 7s semi-finals full of confidence as they continue their quest for the title. With their lethal combination of speed, physicality and attacking flair firing at the right time, the Kakamega-based side once again demonstrated why they remain among the strongest contenders to lift the Dala 7s crown.
