The race for the Dala 7s title began to take shape on Saturday afternoon as KCB Rugby, Kabras Sugar, Menengai Oilers and Mwamba RFC became the first teams to secure places in the Cup quarter-finals after producing flawless displays through the opening two rounds at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo.
While several sides were left fighting for survival heading into the final pool matches, the quartet showed exactly why they are among the favourites, combining clinical finishing, disciplined defence and ruthless execution to book their places in the knockout rounds with a game to spare.
Defending champions KCB Rugby once again looked every bit the team to beat after brushing aside Zetech Oaks 43-12 to remain perfect in Pool A.
Despite falling behind early when George Omondi crossed over and Johnson Wafula added the extras, the Bankers barely flinched.
Lionel Ajeliti sparked the response before Jenkins Kipruto powered over for another try, with Brian Wahinya converting. Vincent Onyala also got on the scoresheet as KCB established control before the break.
The second half belonged entirely to the defending champions, who stretched the defence with quick ball movement and punished every lapse to finish with seven tries and maintain their perfect six-point record at the top of the standings.
Earlier in the day, MMUST Rugby Club bounced back from their opening defeat with a deserved 19-5 victory over Impala RFC. The students revived their hopes of reaching the Cup quarters, moving level on three points with Zetech, while Impala remained rooted at the foot of the table after suffering a second straight defeat.
Pool B also produced its fair share of drama as Menengai Oilers survived a physical encounter to edge KU Blak Blad 14-5.
The Nakuru-based side had to dig deep after Blak Blad pushed them throughout the contest before the match swung following Obat Kuke’s dismissal for a second yellow card. Oilers capitalised on the numerical advantage, scoring late to seal a second successive win and confirm their place in the last eight.
Kenya Harlequins breathed life into their campaign with a convincing 17-0 victory over Mombasa Rugby Club, keeping their knockout ambitions alive heading into the decisive final pool fixture.
Pool C saw Mwamba RFC continue their impressive start as they held off a spirited Daystar Falcons side 19-14 in one of the most entertaining matches of the afternoon.

Mwamba showed composure under pressure, absorbing sustained attacks before striking when it mattered most to preserve their unbeaten run and punch their ticket to the Cup quarter-finals.
Nondescripts RFC also reignited their campaign after recovering from an opening defeat to dismantle hosts Kisumu RFC 34-12. The result threw Pool C wide open behind Mwamba, with both Nondies and Kisumu heading into the final round level on three points and still in the hunt for qualification.
If there was one team that truly lit up the tournament, it was Kabras Sugar.
The Sugarmen produced another devastating attacking display, running in eight unanswered tries during a crushing 52-0 demolition of Embu RFC to comfortably secure top spot in Pool D.
Mathias Osimbo stole the headlines with a brilliant hat-trick as Kabras repeatedly carved open Embu’s defence with slick passing, relentless support play and blistering pace.
Eric Cantona, Roy Maruti, Adrian Khwesa and Michael Lukusi also crossed the whitewash as Kabras crossed the 50-point mark for the second consecutive pool match, underlining their championship credentials.
Elsewhere in the same pool, Strathmore Leos revived their hopes despite overcoming Nakuru RFC 33-19 in a spirited comeback victory that leaves both sides locked on three points ahead of their final pool assignments.
With only one round of pool matches remaining, several knockout spots are still up for grabs, but KCB Rugby, Menengai Oilers, Mwamba RFC and Kabras Sugar can now turn their attention to the Cup quarter-finals after laying down early markers in Kisumu.
The battle now shifts to the remaining fixtures, where the last qualification places will be decided before the tournament enters the business end of the competition.
