Ulinzi Stars striker Paul Okoth has been rewarded for a red-hot run of form after being named the SportPesa League Player of the Month for May, capping off a decisive spell that helped the military side secure their top-flight status.
The former Kariobangi Sharks forward stood out in a competitive shortlist that included APS Bomet captain Philip Wasai, Murang’a SEAL skipper Joseph Waithira and Kariobangi Sharks midfielder Humphrey Aroko.
However, it was Okoth’s clinical edge in front of goal and consistent impact in the final third that separated him from the rest of the pack.

Okoth enjoyed a prolific month, netting four goals in as many matches while leading the line with authority.
He registered 17 shot attempts, 17 touches inside the opposition box, and maintained an impressive 59 percent shot accuracy, underlining his efficiency in and around the penalty area winning his side a total of 9 points in the run.
The striker set the tone early in May with a commanding performance against Mathare United, where he bagged a brace in a 2-1 win at Ulinzi Sports Complex. His movement off the ball and sharp finishing proved too much for the opposition backline, as he constantly stretched play and exploited defensive gaps.
He followed that up with another composed display against Tusker FC, where he found the back of the net in a 2-0 home victory. Okoth’s ability to time his runs and capitalize on half-chances proved decisive in breaking down a disciplined Tusker defensive block.
The forward rounded off the month with another crucial strike against Posta Rangers in a tightly contested 1-0 victory, a result that ultimately ensured Ulinzi Stars preserved their status in the SportPesa League for the upcoming season.
His consistency over the month not only lifted his team out of danger but also saw him become the first player this season to win the monthly award twice, having previously claimed the honour in November.

His fellow nominees also posted strong numbers, with Wasai contributing three goals and an assist for APS Bomet, Waithira recording four goals and one assist for Murang’a SEAL, while Aroko impressed with four goals and three assists for Kariobangi Sharks.
Okoth pocketed KSh 50,000 and received a customised trophy from league sponsors SportPesa, rounding off a standout month that underlined his importance to Ulinzi Stars’ attacking structure.
