Abud Omar to donate 100000 to popular dance group Mathare Kids Talents Hub

Football often rewards goals, assists and match-winning moments, but every so often it produces a story that goes beyond the pitch.

That is exactly the case with Kenya Police FC captain and Harambee Stars defender Abud Omar who has opted to turn his FKF Cup Man of the Match reward into a gesture of hope for young lives at the Mathare Kids Talents Hub.

Omar has pledged to donate his KSh 100,000 humanitarian cheque to the Mathare Kids Talents Hub in a heartfelt act of generosity.

The defender earned the cash reward after a standout performance in Kenya Police’s FKF Cup quarter-final clash against Shabana FC where he proved decisive on the day, scoring the only goal of the match in the first half with a brilliantly executed free-kick that sealed a narrow victory and booked his side a semi-final date with Bandari FC.

While his on-field heroics were enough to earn him the Man of the Match accolade, it is what he intends to do off the pitch that has captured even greater attention.

Speaking after receiving the award, Omar revealed that he had already identified a worthy cause close to his heart.

“I am grateful for the award. I have been following the Mathare Kids Talents Hub who are dancing. I dedicate this award to them and we’ll find a way of getting this to them,” he said.

In a football landscape often dominated by match results and league standings, Omar’s gesture offers a refreshing reminder of the game’s human side.

The defender, known for his leadership and composure at the back, spoke passionately about why the initiative resonates with him despite never having met the group in person.

“The kids, most of them are orphans and do not have many opportunities, and they look up to most of us. I have never interacted with them in person, but I have seen them through social media. They bring joy with how they dance,” he explained.

“They have not involved themselves in things like drugs but they’ve come together and formed a dance group, which is a great inspiration from such young kids. So this award I will take to them,” he added.

The Mathare Kids Talents Hub has grown into a beacon of hope within the community, offering more than just a platform for artistic expression.

What began as a small grassroots initiative has evolved into a structured empowerment centre, nurturing over 50 young artists from the informal settlement.

Through dance and other creative arts, the organization provides education support, meals, and a sense of purpose for children who might otherwise lack direction.

Their vibrant performances, often shared widely across social media have turned them into a sensation, with the group regularly taking on dance challenges to trending African hits with their latest one being Bien’s Finale featuring Ali Kiba.

Beyond entertainment, however, their work represents resilience, discipline and unity in the face of adversity.

Omar’s donation is set to further strengthen the hub’s mission, offering the youngsters additional resources and motivation to continue pursuing their dreams.

As Kenya Police FC shift their focus to the FKF Cup semi-final, their captain has already made a winning impact where it matters most – touching lives beyond football.
