Gor Mahia will be out to tighten their grip at the top of the SportPesa League when they face Tusker FC in a high-stakes encounter at Wang’uru Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Kick-off is set for 4:15 PM (EAT), with plenty riding on the outcome for both sides, albeit for very different reasons.
For K’Ogalo, it is about maintaining their position at the summit and fending off pressure from arch-rivals AFC Leopards, while Tusker will be keen to turn their inconsistent league form into something more positive.

Gor Mahia target crucial away win against Tusker
Gor Mahia head into the clash on the back of a frustrating goalless draw against Kariobangi Sharks, a result that allowed AFC Leopards to close the gap at the top to just two points.
Despite that slip, Gor Mahia still lead the standings with 57 points from 26 matches, having registered 17 wins, six draws, and only three losses. They have also been impressive in both attack and defence, scoring 44 goals while conceding just 18.
Tusker, on the other hand, come into the match buoyed by a 1-0 victory over Kariobangi Sharks in the FKF Cup, a result that could serve as a morale booster. However, their league campaign has been far from consistent.
The Brewers currently sit 10th on the table with 37 points from 26 matches, having won 11, drawn four, and lost 11. They have scored 23 goals and conceded 26.
Their recent league form paints a mixed picture. Tusker have lost their last two league matches both by a narrow 1-0 margin against AFC Leopards and Police FC.
However, they have managed three wins in their last five outings and have been relatively reliable at home, scoring in each of their last four league matches on their own turf.
Gor Mahia’s recent form has been steadier. In their last five league matches, they have picked up three wins and two draws, underlining their consistency.

Notably, they boast the best away record in the league, having won eight and drawn four of their 12 matches on the road, a statistic that will give them confidence heading into this fixture.
Historically, Gor Mahia have had the upper hand in this fixture. In the last five meetings between the two sides, K’Ogalo have won four, with Tusker managing just one victory. Most of these encounters have been tightly contested, often decided by a single goal.

Speaking ahead of the match, Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor acknowledged the pressure from their closest challengers but expressed confidence in his squad.
“We know that AFC Leopards is doing a lot of things in their power to overtake us, but that will be a difficult one,” said Akonnor.
“We will not allow that because we’ve worked so hard to get here. We’ve not lost a game this year and the confidence of these boys, the way they process things, has been good. We are very confident, but at the same time aware, having a corner eye to see what is going on at your back.”
Gor Mahia will, however, have to cope without goalkeeper Bryne Omondi and defender Sylvester Owino, who remain sidelined through injury.
As the title race intensifies, Gor Mahia will be targeting maximum points to open up a five-point gap ahead of crucial upcoming fixtures, including the much-anticipated 99th Mashemeji Derby.
