KCB FC head coach Robert Matano has come to the defence of Nigeria-born Djibouti international Samuel Temidayo Feargod, who is yet to score for the Bankers since sealing a mid-season move from Arta Solar 7 FC.
Feargod arrived in Kenya with an impressive scoring record from the Djibouti Premier League, but life in the SportPesa League has presented a different challenge.
The striker has been handed starting roles in KCB’s last two matches a 3-0 defeat to Gor Mahia and a hard-fought 1-0 victory over AFC Leopards, where David Sakwa netted the all-important winner. Despite leading the line in both fixtures, Feargod is still searching for his first goal in KCB colours.

Matano backs Samuel Feargod to deliver despite slow start at KCB
However, Matano has urged patience, expressing strong belief in the forward’s ability and long-term impact at the club.
“He is coming up, he is a good striker. I have trust in him. He is yet to catch up as he is not yet settled but I know he is going to help us in future, because he has the potential. It is only a matter of time,” said Matano.
The 1999-born striker began his professional journey in Nigeria with Shooting Stars during the 2014–2015 season, scoring four goals in 10 appearances. He then moved to First Bank FC in the 2015–2016 campaign, where he managed two goals in seven outings.

His steady development continued at Bayelsa United in the 2016–2017 season, scoring four times in 12 appearances, before earning a move to Rivers United a season later.
At Rivers United, he found the net four times in 12 matches. A stint with Lobi Stars followed in the 2018–2019 season, where he scored twice in eight appearances.
In 2019, Feargod made a bold move to Djibouti, joining Arta Solar 7 FC. It proved to be a turning point in his career. Over five years, he scored an impressive 53 goals in 73 appearances, establishing himself as one of the league’s most lethal forwards.
He helped the club win the 2022 Djibouti Cup and was instrumental in securing a domestic double during his time there.
Eligible to represent Nigeria by birth, the striker opted to play for Djibouti after receiving citizenship in June 2021. He made his international debut on 15 June 2021 in a friendly against Somalia, scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory.
Feargod later emerged as the top scorer at the 2023 Mauritius Four Nations Cup, netting twice to guide Djibouti to their first-ever trophy in the competition.
With KCB pushing for a strong finish in the SportPesa League and aiming for silverware in the FKF Cup, the Bankers will be hoping Feargod rediscovers the scoring touch that made him such a feared striker in Djibouti. For now, Matano’s message is clear patience is key, and the goals will come.
