- They edged out Kenya Harlequins 30-23 at the Ngong Racecourse, sealing their third consecutive victory.
- This marked Odongo’s second appearance of the campaign, having also featured in their narrow 34-31 defeat to fellow students Strathmore Leos.
Kenya 7s speedster Patrick Odongo was left excited after securing his first win in Kenya’s premier rugby competition, the Kenya Cup, on Saturday February 21, with his side, Daystar Falcons.
Odongo was featuring in just his second appearance in the Kenya Cup since his club earned promotion from the Championship this season, edging out Kenya Harlequins 30-23 at the Ngong Racecourse.
The convincing victory marked the Students’ third consecutive triumph in the Kenya Cup, having previously brushed aside Nakuru RFC and MMUST Rugby.

They surpassed the 20-point mark to remain fifth on the table with 21 points, after registering four wins so far in their debut season, which also includes a victory over Kisumu RFC.
Speaking to Kenya Cup media after Saturday’s clash, Odongo admitted they never underestimated Kenya Harlequins at any point.
Despite wanting the points badly, they knew Quins are a formidable force in the top flight.
“It was a tough game. We did not underestimate Quins because they are regulars in the Kenya Cup and we are first-timers in the top flight. It was one intense battle, but the boys showed great character and we secured the points,” Odongo explained.

This was Odongo’s second appearance of the campaign, having also featured in their narrow 34-31 defeat to fellow students Strathmore Leos.
He had missed the rest of the fixtures due to national duty with Shujaa, representing the country in the inaugural World Rugby Premier League staged in India last year.

The sensational winger was absolutely stoked to be back and to register his first-ever win with his club.
He emphasized that the squad is putting in the work to maintain their status in their debut season.
I’m really excited to be back playing for Daystar. It’s been a while since I turned out for my club because I’ve mostly been on national team duty. Now I’ve had my second Kenya Cup match and it came with a fantastic win. There are more games ahead.
Being our first time in the Kenya Cup, I can confidently say we have a focused and determined squad. The boys are thrilled to compete at this level.”
With the regular season winding down, Bosire’s charges now face a tough run-in against Blak Blad, Nondescripts, and KCB.

The real drama, though, is in the playoff chase. Strathmore Leos hold fourth place, but Daystar Falcons are closing in after back-to-back wins.
KU Blak Blad are still in contention, while Nondescripts RFC have struggled despite having a game in hand.
At the bottom, it’s incredibly tight. Kenya Harlequins, Nakuru RFC, and Impala RFC are level on points, with MMUST Rugby and Kisumu RFC just below the drop zone. With only three matches left, everything is still to play for.
