Job Ochieng’ scores again in Spain

Kenya international Job Ochieng continued his impressive rise in Spanish football on Monday, scoring the decisive goal as Real Sociedad B secured a 2-1 win over Malaga in La Liga 2.

The result was crucial for the Basque side as it lifted them further away from the relegation zone, giving their fans plenty to celebrate at the Anoeta Stadium.

The Nairobi-born winger struck in the 68th minute, capitalizing on a Mikel Rodriguez corner. His header, which took a slight deflection on its way, beat Malaga goalkeeper to give Sanse the lead.

The match had started on a challenging note for the home team. Malaga, one of the promotion contenders in La Liga 2, took the lead inside the opening fifteen minutes when David Larrubia headed in from Joaquin Muñoz’s cross.

However, Real Sociedad B responded almost immediately through Gorka Carrera, restoring parity before the half-hour mark.

The second half saw both sides battling intensely for the winner, with Ochieng’s strike ultimately making the difference.

With this goal, the 23-year-old now has three goals in 18 appearances for the B team this season, alongside two assists, highlighting his steady progression in the club’s ranks.

Ochieng’s journey to this point has been remarkable. After arriving in Spain at just 17, he began his European adventure with Club Deportivo Masapalomas in the Canary Islands.

The club’s coach, Carlos Gaumet, and the team president played a key role in nurturing his talent, helping the young winger adapt to Spanish football and life away from home.

After spending a season with Real Sociedad C in Spain’s fourth tier, Ochieng has now cemented himself in the B team and is gradually earning opportunities with the senior squad.

Earlier this month, he made his debut for Real Sociedad’s first team, coming on as a substitute in the 65th minute during a 3-1 La Liga victory over Elche on February 7.

He also featured briefly in the Copa del Rey semifinal first leg win over Athletic Bilbao and was part of the squad that faced Real Madrid in a 4-1 defeat on Saturday.

Ochieng has also been making strides internationally. Since debuting for the Harambee Stars in a 1-3 World Cup qualifying loss to The Gambia on September 5, 2025, he has earned four caps and is quickly becoming an important option for Kenya on the wings.

With his performances at both club and international level, Ochieng is steadily carving out a name for himself in Spain and proving that Kenyan footballers can make an impact in Europe.

His latest winner against Malaga may well be another step towards a long and successful career at the top level.
