Murang’a Seal head coach Osborne Monday was impressed by his sides determination as they battled to a 3-2 victory against Sofapaka in the SportPesa League on Sunday at the Vapor Grounds in Ngong.
Joe Waithira, who is the SportPesa League’s top scorer with 13 goals, opened the scoring in the fourth minute before Paul Osama added another on the half hour mark with a cool finish.
Sofapaka staged a comeback and with the score level at 2-2 deep in the second half, coach Monday made some changes which worked in his favor. Substitute Pkemoi scored five minutes after coming on to seal the 3-2 win for Murang’a.

“The boys have played very well and I’m proud of the fighting spirit they have shown in recent matches,” the former Kenya international stated after the match.
“The game was good despite a period of Sofapaka dominance in the second half. We gifted them a goal but these are things we can work on in training as we prepare for our next assignment,” Monday added.

The win was a fourth consecutive for Murang’a who are in fourth place with 33 points. They have lost just once in their last 15 league games, the best run of any team in the SportPesa League.
Monday seems to have brought a new sense of belief to the side that started season with a rather unconvincing run of form. Following a long stay in the bottom quarter of the table, Murang’a have proved to be the team to beat in the Kenyan top flight.
“The younger players are growing into their own and I’m satisfied with the progress they are making. We started to play their game a little and lost ourselves but we did well to recover.
“We are grateful to the fans for their continued support. I urge them to keep it up because it goes a long way in motivating the boys,” Monday added.

Their next assignment is a tough test away to Tusker FC, who have beaten Murang’a in all of their last four games against the Central-based side.
The reverse SL fixture between these two teams resulted in a 1-0 victory for Tusker last October, courtesy of a 79th minute Eric Kapaito effort.
“We are taking it one game at a time. As long as we continue showing composure and good communication moving forward, we have what it takes to take on any team in the league.
“Tusker are a tough side and we have time to work on all our errors in training so we can be prepared for the match,” the tactician concluded.
