Gor Mahia will host Sofapaka FC at the Nyayo National Stadium this Saturday in a Sportpesa League Round 19 encounter, with kickoff scheduled for 4pm EAT.
The match is important for both sides, the hosts are looking to pull clear at the summit of the table, while Batoto Ba Mungu are desperately fighting to escape the relegation zone.
Gor Mahia, currently sitting first on the log with 36 points, enter the tie under the guidance of Ghanaian coach Charles Akonnor.

K’Ogalo showed immense resilience last weekend, securing a last-gasp 2-1 comeback victory over Bidco United thanks to a 97th-minute winner by Paul Ochuoga.
Having already beaten Sofapaka 2-0 earlier this season, the record champions are favorites to complete a league double and keep arch-rivals AFC Leopards at bay.
For the visitors, the situation is dire. Sofapaka occupies 17th place with 14 points and is coming off a narrow 1-0 loss to AFC Leopards at Kasarani.

Under Coach Ezekiel Akwana, the 2009 champions have struggled for consistency, losing 10 matches so far this season.
However, Akwana has remained optimistic about their style of play, and a surprise result against the league leaders could be the catalyst they need to leapfrog Bidco United and exit the bottom two.

Gor Mahia have been dealt a significant blow with top scorer Felix Oluoch sidelined indefinitely. The striker, who has netted 7 goals this season, was diagnosed with patellar tendinopathy a knee injury.
However, the technical bench is boosted by the return of assistant captain and veteran left-back Geoffrey “Simiti” Ochieng, who has finally been registered for the second leg after a long injury layoff.
Midfielder Ben Stanley Omondi has also resumed training and could feature against his former employers.
Sofapaka have been active in the mid-season transfer market as Akwana looks to sharpen a blunt attack .
The club already brought in Tyrone Kariuki and veteran winger Clifton Miheso as well as KCB Goalkeeper Brian Opinto on loan.
Ahead of the clash, Gor Mahia Assistant Coach Kobi Mensah said they’ve been watching Sofapaka matches.
“Yes, we have watched them. I think we watched them in their last game against Leopard. They’re a good team and from what we saw, I think that we have a plan as to how to approach the game. We can’t talk about it, but we’re going to be serious about it. It’s a team that I think they are good. We need to play above ourselves to be able to beat them.”

On his part, Sofapaka counterpart Ezekiel Akwana has rued misses chances that have continued to prove costly.
“We are playing well and creating a flow, but we are not converting. Against Gor Mahia, you might only get two chances, and you must take them. We respect their status as leaders, but we are going to Nyayo to fight for our lives. We need points.”
