John Mark Mkawata scored on his debut for Mathare United, with his solo strike from the penalty spot earning his new side a crucial 1–0 victory against Ulinzi Stars on Friday evening at Kasarani Annex.
Makwata was unveiled earlier this week by the Slum Boys after they secured his services from the Mombasa-based outfit Bandari FC during the January transfer window.
The club succeeded in outbidding several SportPesa League rivals, including Kariobangi Sharks and KCB, who were also eager to sign him.

Having been in the game for some time, Makwata has now opened his account with the Slum Boys – his first goal for the club coming against his former employers, where he played from 2013 to 2016.
Mathare United edge Ulinzi Stars 1-0
It now appears to be the perfect time for Mkawata to have joined John Kamau’s side, who are determined to rediscover their winning rhythm.
The victory not only delivered maximum points but also marked a return to winning ways after back-to-back defeats.

Mathare’s sixth win of the season has seen them climb to 11th place on the table with 21 points, just three shy of the top three, currently occupied by Kakamega Homeboyz on 24 points.
On the other hand, Ulinzi Stars were hoping to extend their unbeaten run to three matches following one win and a draw, but the streak came to an end.
They now sit 14th on the standings with 17 points from four wins, five draws, and eight defeats jointly the highest number of losses in the league alongside Sofapaka.
