Who is Ebenezer Kofi Assifuah?
Born in Accra, he rose to prominence as one of the most feared forwards in Ghanaian youth football, earning a reputation as a natural goal scorer with sharp movement and a calm presence in front of goal.
His breakthrough came with Ghana’s U20 side, where he scored an impressive 12 goals in just 13 appearances, numbers that quickly put him on the radar of European scouts.
Assifuah’s defining moment on the global stage arrived at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
Leading the line for the Black Satellites, he finished the tournament as the top scorer, a feat that underlined his clinical edge and ability to deliver on big occasions.
That performance earned him a move to Swiss Super League side FC Sion, marking the start of his professional journey in Europe.
During his four-year spell at Sion, Assifuah made 88 appearances and scored 15 goals, often being deployed as a focal point in attack or an impact player off the bench.
While his numbers were modest, his time in Switzerland was highlighted by a memorable night at Anfield on October 1, 2015, when he scored the equaliser against Liverpool in a UEFA Europa League group-stage match, a goal that remains one of the standout moments of his career.
Following his stint in Switzerland, Assifuah moved to France, where he enjoyed relatively more consistent spells with Le Havre and later Pau FC. At Le Havre, he netted 12 goals in 53 appearances, while his time at Pau yielded 11 goals in 59 matches, further underlining his reliability as a seasoned forward capable of contributing across different leagues and systems.

His most recent stop was in Asia with Kedah Darul Aman FC in Malaysia, where he played until last year.
On the international front, Assifuah has a single senior cap for the Ghana national team, earned in 2016 against Mozambique.
He was also part of the Black Stars squad selected by Avram Grant for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, although he did not feature as Ghana went on to finish fourth.
