Tusker FC secured a scrappy yet crucial 1-0 home victory over Ulinzi Stars on Friday afternoon, climbing to third place in the SportPesa League 2025/26 table.

Dennis Oalo converted the game’s solo goal from the penalty spot after Curtis Wekesa was fouled by Ulinzi Stars captain Brian Birgen inside the area.

Oalo made no mistake, slotting home in the 31st minute.

Tusker FC edge Ulinzi Stars 1-0

The Brewers entered this Round 12 fixture desperate for a win to secure consecutive victories and stabilize their form, having suffered back-to-back defeats to reigning champions Kenya Police FC and record holders Gor Mahia before a 1-0 triumph over Mara Sugar.

They also needed to address their poor home form, which has been a persistent frustration this season. Friday’s result marks only their second win in seven home matches, alongside two draws and two losses.

In addition, Charles Okere’s side, who created opportunities but lacked precision in the final third, find themselves temporarily catapulted into third place with 18 points from 12 matches, securing their fifth win of the campaign.

They sit one point behind joint leaders Gor Mahia and Kakamega Homeboyz, who each have 19 points, and are one point ahead of Police FC and two clear of fifth-place Posta Rangers, who have games in hand this weekend.

Meanwhile, Ulinzi Stars saw their positive momentum halted and a three-match unbeaten run snapped, condemned to their fifth loss of the season.

Stephen Ochola’s men remained resilient and created numerous chances, but like their opponents, they were wasteful in attack. Had they been more clinical, they could have secured a fourth seasonal victory.

Instead, with three wins, four draws, and now this fifth defeat, they are left in ninth position with 13 points – a risky place as they await other weekend results.

Tusker FC will look to maintain their winning form when they face Sofapaka in their next fixture on December 11th.

Ulinzi Stars, meanwhile, will return to the Ulinzi Sports Complex to host KCB on December 12th, seeking to quickly bounce back from this setback.
