- Alphonce Omija reveals details of meeting with club patron Owalo.
- Some fans had speculated that Omija’s visit to Owalo might signal a possible return to Gor Mahia
- The centre-back is yet to rejoin his club in Tunisia after the November international break.
Former Gor Mahia defender Alphonce Omija has shed light on why he met with the club’s patron Eliud Owalo earlier this week.
Omija, who now turns out for Tunisian giants Étoile Sportive du Sahel, is currently in the country following his participation with the Harambee Stars during the November FIFA international break, a period that ended on a disappointing note after Kenya’s 8-0 loss to Senegal in Turkey.
The centre-back is yet to rejoin his club in Tunisia but confirmed that his return is imminent.
“I have been having some time off due to some knock but I will be going back to link up with my teammates. I have already booked my tickets and I will leave any time from today,” he told SportPesa Blog.

Alphonce Omija reveals details of meeting with club patron Owalo
On Tuesday morning, Omija paid a courtesy call Owalo at his office and revealed that the two discussed his progress in Tunisia and followed up on conversations that had been pending since before he moved to Étoile du Sahel.
“We met to talk about how life has been in Tunisia since I left. We were supposed to meet even before I joined Étoile Sportive du Sahel, so this was just a follow-up meeting,” Omija explained.
His move to the North African outfit sparked heated debate online at the time. A section of Gor Mahia fans accused club deputy chairperson Sally Bolo whose agency previously represented the defender of being involved in questionable dealings during the transfer.
Omija says this was also part of the conversation with Owalo.
“We also talked about my move to Étoile Sportive du Sahel. As we can all remember, it brought a lot of issues with many accusations going around about who did what and what really happened,” he said.
Some fans had speculated that Omija’s visit to Owalo might signal a possible return to Gor Mahia, given that several players in the past have joined the club shortly after similar meetings with the patron.
The former Kariobangi Sharks defender, however, clarified that he is fully committed to his current employers.
“I am still contracted to Étoile Sportive du Sahel that is my current club. I wish Gor Mahia all the best in their ongoing SportPesa League campaign,” he concluded.
