How did Yanga SC come to be?
Yanga SC was founded in 1935 by African residents in Dar es Salaam to compete in leagues dominated by non-African teams. Early poor results led to internal disputes, resulting in a significant split in 1936. The breakaway group went on to form a new club, which later became Simba SC, thereby creating a long-standing rivalry. In 2020, Yanga modernized its structure by partnering with La Liga and opening the club to private investment.
