The footballing world will be hoping for a treat when Barcelona welcome defending UEFA Champions League winners PSG at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on Wednesday night.

Both sides will be gunning for back-to-back wins in the 25/26 Champions League campaign after perfect starts in the League Phase Round 1. Barcelona beat Newcastle 2-1 while PSG thrashed Atalanta 4-0.

However, injury issues have stolen some shine off the huge clash as Barcelona will be without Raphinha, goalkeeper Joan García and midfielder who will be sidelined for up to five months after undergoing knee surgery.

On the other hand, the fixture will miss the presence of 2025 Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele who is still sidelined with a hamstring injury and will not face his former side.

Additionally, PSG captain Marquinhos is unlikely to return before the October international break after sustaining a thigh issue, while the exciting Désiré Doué and João Neves are also on the injury list.

Vitinha and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also exited Saturday’s 2-0 Ligue 1 win over Auxerre early and are doubtful.

What the coaches said ahead of Barcelona vs Paris tie

Hansi Flick: “We’re playing against the best team in the world. Paris have a great coach and great players. It’s a great challenge.”

“We are Barça and we’re always among the favourites, but the road is very long and we have to work hard. Are we looking for revenge for our elimination last season? We don’t look at the past; everything has changed: PSG, the players, Barça.”

Luis Enrique: “I’m happy to be back, it’s my home. I spent most of my playing and coaching career here. It’s not the Camp Nou, but it’s a beautiful stadium; I played in the 1992 Olympics there. It’s very special to be here.

“For us, it’s exciting and thrilling to play against a team that plays with the same mentality. They have a very high-level coach that I’ve known for a long time. Both the coach and the players are eager to play a good game. The two teams are similar, but the key will be to win the ball, in my opinion.”

Barcelona vs PSG Prediction

This game promises to be a closely-contested affair with both sides out for a win. Injury issues and home advantage swing the pendulum in favour of Barcelona, but nothing can be ruled out of PSG who are the defending champions for a reason.

With attacking football as their style, both teams are likely to find the back of the net.
