Ulinzi Stars was left frustrated after being held to a goalless stalemate by Kariobangi Sharks in their first home fixture of the 2025/26 SportPesa League season on Wednesday evening at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

The Soldiers, buoyed by their narrow 1-0 win over Murang’a SEAL in the opening round, looked eager to register back-to-back victories.

They came close just one minute into the game when Leonlevvit Osiago delivered a teasing cross from the left flank that almost met Joseph Ochieng at the near post.

However, the ball narrowly missed the target by inches and resulted in a corner, which ultimately yielded nothing.

Sharks, who also came into the clash following a goalless draw against Bandari FC, carved out their first real chance in the 15th minute.

Stephen Bwire unleashed a shot from the right after a well-worked move from the left wing, but his effort was deflected over the bar by the alert Ulinzi goalkeeper.

Despite both sides crafting occasional opportunities, the encounter remained tight and largely uneventful.

Ulinzi enjoyed more possession and attacking initiative but lacked sharpness in the final third. By the half-hour mark, both teams had chances but failed to convert, leaving the scoreline unchanged at the break.

The second half began with Sharks head coach William Muluya making a double substitution, introducing Ally Salum and Razel Omondi to inject fresh energy into the attack, replacing Bwire and Wayne Dalvine Otieno.

Boniface Muchiri had a golden opportunity to put the home side ahead early in the second half, but his strike soared over the crossbar.

Sharks nearly broke the deadlock in the 58th minute when Markvivian Kesa’s curling effort came agonizingly close, narrowly missing the target with Ulinzi custodian Ricks Omondi beaten. Minutes later, Salum squandered a promising chance for the visitors, missing the target from close range.

In the 72nd minute, Muchiri, who had been lively throughout, whipped in a dangerous cross that found Paul Okoth. However, his powerful header flew wide of the mark, summing up Ulinzi’s wastefulness in front of goal.

Despite creating several decent openings late in the match, the home side failed to capitalize, leaving their fans disappointed. The draw sees Ulinzi add just one point to the three they collected from their season opener against SEAL.
