• Head coach Kevin Wambua, alongside chairman of selectors Elijah Toili, have unveiled the Kenya 7s provisional squad ahead of the 25/26 season.
  • The selectors will name the final Shujaa squad from this pool, while the Kenya Morans – the second-tier team, will also be drawn from the same squad.
  • The squad will officially begin training on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, as preparations intensify ahead of upcoming international assignments.

Head coach Kevin ‘Bling’ Wambua and chairman of selectors, Elijah Toili, have announced a 48-man Kenya 7s provisional squad ahead of the 25/26 campaign.

The group has been chosen based on standout performances in the recently concluded 2025 SportPesa National 7s circuit where KCB clinched the overall title.

From this pool of players, the selectors will choose the first-team lineup for Shujaa, while the second team, the Kenya Morans, will also be selected from this talented assembly.

Furthermore, the group will also form the basis for selecting the team that will represent the nation in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Division 2 next season, the level at which Shujaa currently competes.

Daystar Falcons, after an impressive circuit that saw them reach their first-ever main cup final at the Kabeberi 7s, lead the contingent by contributing eight players.

KCB, who were beaten only twice in 36 matches and appeared in all six finals in the process of reclaiming the SportPesa 7s title, have seven athletes in the squad. Kabras Sugar and Strathmore Leos each have six players called up.

Reacting to the selection, Paul Odera the Director of Rugby and Pathway Manager at the Kenya Rugby Union stated that a call-up is merely the first step.

His expectation is to ensure the final team will represent the nation with distinction on the international stage.

Getting a call up is just the first step, the hard work is impressing the coach at training over the next week to make the final squad. My expectation is that the process will give us a squad capable of securing Kenya a place in the top division of the HSBC Sevens Circuit.

Secondly, we will be able to select an U20 7s squad for the very first time to give a pathway to our young players to the Shujaa and Morans teams,” said Odera.
