The 19-year-old’s move comes on the heels of his impressive performances with the national U20 team, the Rising Stars.

He served as assistant captain as the squad made history by becoming the first Kenyan team to qualify for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Egypt in 2025, though they were eliminated in the group stage.

Despite the early exit, the right-back also enjoyed a solid two-year spell at Sofapaka, where he played a key role in helping the team avoid relegation in 2023.

His continued strong form in 2024 contributed to the club’s top-ten finish, catching the attention of the 14-time Egyptian Premier League champions.

Baron Ochieng began his career with second-tier side Kibera Black Stars before moving to Batoto Ba Mungu in 2023.

At the international level, he has represented Kenya at the U18 and U20 levels and made his senior debut for the Harambee Stars in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and Burundi.

Ochieng becomes the 11th signing of the summer as Zamalek seeks to rebuild a stronger squad.

In regional competitions, the club has won the Arab Club Champions Cup once and the Afro-Asian Club Championship twice.

Following a disappointing 2024–25 season, in which they finished third in the Egyptian Premier League and were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, the club began a squad rebuild, which included the appointment of Belgian coach Yannick Ferrera.

Zamalek are scheduled to face Masry on the sixth matchday of the Egyptian Premier League on Saturday.

They currently sit second in the table with 10 points after five matches (3 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss), one point behind leaders Al Masry.
